Lockhorsterbos
Forest area
Just a 6-minute drive away is the Lockhorsterbos. Take a stunning walk among deciduous and coniferous trees and enjoy the nature. Lockhorsterbos is a beautiful forest area in Leusden, located on the edge of the Gelderland Valley. The forest is about 70 hectares in size and is a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees. The area is very popular with walkers, cyclists, and runners due to the many paths and beautiful nature.
Lockhorsterbos is a diverse area with beautiful ponds, open grass fields, and of course, many trees. The forest is especially beautiful in spring and summer, when the trees are full of leaves and the flowers bloom. It is also worth a visit in autumn when the leaves change color and mushrooms pop up.
There are several walking and cycling routes mapped out through the forest, varying in length and difficulty. For example, there is a route of about 3 kilometers that takes you past all the highlights of the forest, but also longer routes of 5 to 10 kilometers for the more experienced walkers and cyclists.
A special place in the Lockhorsterbos is the Uilentoren, a watchtower about 12 meters high. From the top of the tower, you have a beautiful view over the forest and the surrounding area. There are also various picnic benches and play areas for children to be found in the forest.
